Spring Break San Felipe, Mexico
|
San Felipe is a remote community with a desert climate on the tranquil blue Sea of Cortez. Palm palapas dot the beaches. There are almost 100 miles of unspoiled beaches running north and south of town.
San Felipe's motto is "no bad days". It is a town known for its world famous sunsets and fish tacos. Originally founded as a fishing port, San Felipe has been credited by Rubio's as the birthplace of their fish taco. (Rubio's founder Ralph Rubio used to travel there for Spring Break as a college student, where he first tasted the fish tacos and learned how to make them from one of the local restaurant owners. He later opened his own restaurant in the US and now has over 160 locations with over 50 million tacos sold.)
San Felipe is host to 250,000 American and Canadian visitors annually. Spring Break weeks are the busiest weeks of the year.
San Felipe is also considered one of the most popular strategic places to carry out the most important Off-Road Races in both the American and Mexican series. They receive International type events such as the Tecate Score San Felipe 250 Race, the Mc. Millan 500, the Baja 1000, the Ensenada-Mexicali-San Felipe Race Ready 275 from CODE, the Ensenada San Felipe 250 Race Ready from RECORD, the Off-Road Poker Runs from Pete's Camp and from the Percebu Lagoon, the famous Motorcycle and Cuadra tracks, and the Bicycle Cross Country organized mainly by the Mexicali Clubs. Due to this and to the events developed in Mexicali, it is known as the Local Government Capital of the Off-Road Races.
